I Love Me Some Reggie Bush

They call me Mr. Dynamite.  I blow things up in black and white.  Oh Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, do you remember Mr. Dynamite?  He blew things up in black and white.  -Iggy Pop

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  First things first.  First thing is I don’t have a horse in this race.  I’m like the Marcels, without a dream in my heart, without a love of my own.  My love went down when Wes Welker went down in the last game of the regular season.  Having said that, I’ll say this.  I’ll say there is a guy I’m rooting for.  I’ll say I’m rooting for Mr. Excitement.  No, not Jackie Wilson.  No, I’m rooting for Reggie Bush.

When Reggie came out of USC, some folks called him the greatest college running back ever.  After all, he did win a national championship and just about every individual accolade a running back could get.  Since then, we’ve all been sitting around the Eastern Gate waiting and begging for him to come along riding in on his white horse to perform many great signs and wonders.  We wanted to see him zoom past defenders.  We wanted to watch him break records.  To our dismay, he hasn’t rushed for more than 581 yards in any of his four seasons and hasn’t totaled more than eight touchdowns in any them either.  Even so, Reggie Bush is the type of dynamic playmaker who still can make plays.

He made plays against the Cardinals.  He made plays against the Cardinals in the Saints’ 45-14 NFC divisional-round win.  Even though he only got his hands on the rock 12 times, he made those twelve times count.  He made them count with mesmerizing runs.  He made them count with tantalizing catches.  Made them count with captivating and devastating punt returns.  Bush scored mesmerizing, tantalizing, captivating and devastating touchdowns on both a 46-yard run and an 83-yard punt return.  Yowza!

What Reggie Bush can’t do with power, he does with speed and grace.  Not many people have grace.  You can’t acquire grace.  Grace isn’t something you can pick up at the market.  You can’t have a little grace.  You either have grace, or you…don’t.  Reggie Bush has grace.

He has grace running the ball between the tackles.  He has grace outside the tackles, returning punts, catching the ball out of the backfield and catching the ball down the field.  That’s what he does.  That’s who he is.  He’s a football player.  Pure and simple.  He just may be, purely and simply, football’s most electrifying running back, capable of making Sports Center’s Top Ten Plays whenever he touches the ball.

So while quarterbacks Drew Brees and Peyton Manning are the stars of Sunday’s Super Bowl, I’m hoping Reggie Bush steals the show.

Public Spectacle:

Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
